The jewel of the Empire State Winter Games, the Opening Ceremony delivers pageantry, inspiration, and motivation through the Parade of Athletes, live TV coverage, live music by Nik and the Nice Guys and the Brooklyn Children's Theater, entertaining acts, the arrival of the ESWG torch, and the lighting of the ESWG Cauldron.

Athletes who have received their jackets may arrive at the USA Rink in the Olympic Center (use the athlete entrance on Cummins Road) by 5:30 p.m. to line-up according to their sport. Athletes MUST have their ESWG jacket on to march in the Opening Ceremony. This year, the parade of athletes will take place at the very beginning of the program, so athletes should arrive no later than 5:45 pm.

(Left) The Brooklyn Children's Theater will be debuting the ESWG Anthem at the 2018 Opening Ceremony.

Parents, family, friends, and spectators are invited and encouraged to attend. This year's Opening Ceremony will feature countless moments you won't want to forget, so don't forget to bring your cameras!

For parents - make a plan for connecting with your athlete following the ceremony. Athletes will be located on the ice during this year's ceremony, but we ask that you not join them on the ice after the event.

After you drop your athletes off at the USA rink prior to the ceremony, proceed to the stands and be seated. We provide a large contingent of both ESWG staff and adult volunteers in the USA rink to help organize the athletes prior to the event. You can feel secure your child will be supervised and safe for the duration of the ceremony. Parents are not allowed to march in the parade of athletes or go onto the ice in the line-up area of the USA Rink.  Volunteers march in with them, and remain with them for the duration of the ceremony as chaperones. Athletes will leave the ice following the ceremony and exit the rink at the doors near the box office under the overpass just off Main Street at the main entrance to the Arena.
