Opening Ceremony

2018 ESWG Opening Ceremony

featuring the "Parade of Athletes"

Thursday, February 1 at 6 p.m. at the Herb Brooks Arena, 1980 Olympic Center

Free and open to the public

The jewel of the Empire State Winter Games, the Opening Ceremony delivers pageantry, inspiration, and motivation through the Parade of Athletes, live TV coverage, live music, entertaining acts, the arrival of the ESWG torch, and the lighting of the ESWG Cauldron.

Athletes who have received their jackets may arrive at the USA Rink in the Olympic Center (use the athlete entrance on Cummins Road) by 5:30 p.m. to line-up according to their sport. Athletes MUST have their ESWG jacket on to march in the Opening Ceremony. This year, the parade of athletes will take place at the very beginning of the program, so athletes should arrive no later than 5:45 pm.

Parents, family, friends, and spectators are invited and encouraged to attend. This year's Opening Ceremony will feature countless moments you won't want to forget, so don't forget to bring your cameras!

For parents - make a plan for connecting with your athlete following the ceremony. Athletes will be located on the ice during this year's ceremony, but we ask that you not join them on the ice after the event. After you drop your athletes off at the USA rink prior to the ceremony, proceed to the stands and be seated. We provide a large contingent of adult volunteers in the USA rink to help organize the athletes pior to the event. Volunteers march in with them, assist them to their seats, and remain with them for the duration of the ceremony as chaperones.
