Marathon & Citizen (Kid's and Adult) Skating Races
Organizers of the Empire State Winter Games (ESWG) announced Tuesday that, although Mirror Lake in Lake Placid is safe with ample ice depth, recent weather has rendered the skating track too bumpy for the ESWG Marathon Skate. As a result, the 26.3-mile race, as well as the Citizens and Kid’s events, have been relocated to the Olympic Speed Skating Oval on Main Street in the village. After warmer temperatures last week created a wet surface, heavy snowfall over the weekend created a track that did not mesh well with speed skates. In the interest of safety and fair play, the decision was rendered to move the competitions.
